Margaret Preston

Benchmark score:
9.0

Margaret Preston (1875-1963) was a prominent Australian artist, highly regarded for her bold, modernist approach to printmaking and painting. She was one of the leading figures in the development of modern art in Australia during the early 20th century. Born in Adelaide, Preston had a prolific career that spanned several decades, during which she actively promoted the importance of fostering a distinctly Australian style of art. Did you know? Preston was a major advocate for the use of native Australian flora and fauna as subjects in art, as part of a broader nationalist movement in Australian painting. Her work often featured brightly colored, highly stylized forms and was influenced by her interests in the arts and crafts movement, Japanese woodblock prints, and modernist theories of design and color. Another great style in our collection, the Midlibrary score is yet again 9/9!
