Meiji Period photography
Today we have a sub-genre of photography rather than a technique to present. We called it «Meiji Period photography». The Meiji Period in Japan, which lasted from 1868 to 1912, marked a significant era of transformation and modernization in the country. During this period, Japan underwent a series of political, social, and cultural changes, including the opening of Japan to the outside world and the adoption of Western technology and practices. Did you know? The Meiji Period saw the introduction of photography to Japan, and it quickly became a popular medium for documenting the nation’s transition to modernity. Early photographers in Japan, both Japanese and foreign, captured scenes of daily life, portraits, landscapes, and historical events, providing valuable visual records of this transformative era. The Midlibrary score is 7/9. We love the dressed-up cat and all the portraits. However, the cyberpunk character and the peonies turned out to be a difficult subject for this style.
