Paul-César Helleu (1859-1927) was a French painter and engraver best known for his elegant depictions of beautiful society women of the Belle Époque. Helleu is celebrated for his mastery of the drypoint technique, which allowed him to achieve soft, delicate lines ideal for capturing the subtleties and nuances of female beauty. His portraits not only reflect the fashion and airs of the time but also convey a sense of intimacy and personality of his subjects, who included many of the era’s most glamorous figures from Paris and London society. This style shines with portraits and is not very strong with anything else. Still, it’s an interesting style with cool drawing technique, soft lines and delicate treatment of facial features of the subjects. The Midlibrary score is 7/9.
