Anthea Hamilton

Anthea Hamilton is a British contemporary artist known for her large-scale sculptures and installations that often incorporate elements of performance, fashion, and design. Born in 1978 in London, Hamilton studied at Leeds Metropolitan University and the Royal College of Art. Her work is characterized by its playful and irreverent approach to art-making, often drawing on a wide range of cultural references from history, literature, and popular culture.

Hamilton's sculptures often take the form of oversized objects or figures, such as her 2016 work Lichen! Libido! Chastity! which featured a giant pair of buttocks inspired by a 1970s design by Gaetano Pesce. Her installations are immersive environments that invite viewers to engage with the space and the objects within it, as seen in her 2018 exhibition The Squash at the Tate Britain, where performers wearing squash-like costumes interacted with visitors in a space filled with colorful geometric shapes.

Hamilton has been the recipient of several awards and nominations, including being shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2016.
