Harold Edgerton
American scientist
Harold Edgerton (1903-1990) was an American engineer, inventor, and photographer, widely recognized for his pioneering work in high-speed photography. Born in Fremont, Nebraska, Edgerton earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from MIT, where he later became a professor.
Edgerton's groundbreaking work involved capturing extremely fast-moving objects by using strobe lights synchronized with a camera's shutter. This technique allowed him to freeze moments in time that were otherwise invisible to the human eye, such as a bullet piercing an apple or a drop of milk splashing. His iconic image "Milk Drop Coronet" became one of the most famous examples of high-speed photography.
