To highlight the style's strenghts and features, we run each SREF code through a set of 16 standardized prompts—Midlibrary Benchmark. Each prompt demonstrates how the SREF ”behaves“ in various domains of visual art/applications.
Knolling is a method of arranging related objects in parallel or 90-degree angles as a method of organization. It originated in the 1980s when janitor Andrew Kromelow at Frank Gehry’s furniture fabrication shop arranged tools at right angles for ease of use, coining the term after Knoll furniture's clean lines.
Knolling's Midjourney style features a precise and orderly arrangement of objects, often tools or everyday items, laid out in a grid-like pattern. The compositions are characterized by their geometric and minimalist nature, with a focus on symmetry and balance. The color palette typically includes neutral tones with occasional bright accents, creating a vivid yet harmonious visual effect. This style emphasizes clean lines and spatial organization, reflecting a modern design aesthetic influenced by industrial and conceptual art movements.
