About
Charles Angrand is a French painter known for his contributions to the Neo-Impressionist movement, particularly in the technique of pointillism. Born in 1854, Angrand was a contemporary of Georges Seurat and Paul Signac , and he played a significant role in the development of post-impressionist art in France. His works often depict serene landscapes and everyday scenes, characterized by meticulous attention to color and light.
Observations
Across all four images, richly textured paint builds forests, foliage, garments, and figures from visible directional strokes and clustered marks. The scenes combine strong dark verticals with glowing woodland light, saturated autumn reds and ochres, and simplified, enigmatic figures that give the landscapes a dreamlike, slightly surreal character.
