About
Joao Ruas is a Brazilian contemporary artist known for his intricate and surreal artworks that often explore themes of mythology and fantasy. His work is characterized by a blend of traditional and digital techniques, creating a unique style that is both detailed and expressive.
Observations
The style combines intensely detailed, expressive portraiture with visible fine drawing and layered painterly brushwork. Weathered faces, skeletal or bird motifs, torn fabrics, stark shadows, and restrained teal, rust, black, and parchment tones create a brooding surreal atmosphere across the four images.
