About

Ludwig Meidner was a German painter and printmaker known for his expressionist works, particularly those depicting apocalyptic landscapes and urban scenes. Born in 1884, Meidner's art often reflected the tumultuous socio-political climate of early 20th century Europe, characterized by intense emotion and dramatic compositions.

Observations

Across all four renders, anguished faces and crowded human figures are pushed into exaggerated, emotionally intense compositions. The style combines visible, directional paint handling with heavy ink-like marks, dense hatching, deep shadows, and a restricted dark palette punctuated by burnt orange and pale highlights.
