About

Paul Rumsey is a contemporary British artist known for his intricate and surreal drawings that explore themes of the grotesque and the fantastical. His work often delves into the realms of the subconscious, creating a unique blend of dark surrealism and detailed fantasy.

Observations

Across all four images, anguished human figures are rendered in stark monochrome with dense fine linework, crosshatched shadows, and visibly rough, paper-like texture. Extreme close-ups, tilted heads, deep blacks, and theatrical expressions create an unsettling surreal mood, while the recurring hand-drawn marks unify the portraits.
