Alois Arnegger (1879–1967) was an Austrian landscape painter best known for his detailed and romanticized depictions of the Austrian and Italian countryside. Born in Vienna, Arnegger studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under landscape painter Robert Russ and historical painter Christian Griepenkerl. He gained recognition for his skillful use of color and light to create atmospheric scenes, often featuring mountains, lakes, and forests, and sometimes incorporating architectural elements like castles or ruins.
Arnegger's work is characterized by its traditional style, which remained largely consistent despite the rise of modernist movements during his lifetime. His paintings often evoke a sense of nostalgia and are executed with a high level of technical skill, capturing the natural beauty of the landscapes he chose to depict.
