About

Albert Dubout is a renowned French illustrator and cartoonist known for his humorous and satirical works. Born in 1905, Dubout gained fame for his exaggerated and whimsical illustrations that often depicted chaotic scenes filled with lively characters. His style is characterized by intricate details and a playful approach to everyday life, making him a beloved figure in the world of illustration.

Observations

The style uses highly detailed illustrative city scenes built from stark black silhouettes, crisp graphic contours, and selectively flat areas of pale grey, white, and warm window light. Strong tonal contrast, stippled grain, snowy atmospheres, and repeated silhouetted figures and trees create a nostalgic, dreamlike urban winter mood.
