About
Albert Oehlen is a German artist known for his abstract and expressionistic paintings. He emerged in the 1980s as part of the Neue Wilde movement, which was characterized by its bold, gestural style and rejection of traditional artistic norms. Oehlen's work often explores the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, employing a diverse range of techniques and media to challenge conventional perceptions of painting.
Observations
Across all four works, energetic painted gestures, drips, splatters, and scratched linear marks build dense abstract compositions from overlapping fragments. Saturated orange, blue, turquoise, red, and pink passages punctuate pale grounds, while broad brushwork and forceful dark contours give the surfaces an expressive, restless intensity.
