About

Arthur Melville is a Scottish painter known for his innovative watercolor techniques and vibrant use of color. He was a key figure in the development of the Glasgow Boys, a group of influential artists in the late 19th century. Melville's work often depicted exotic and atmospheric scenes, drawing inspiration from his travels across Europe and the Middle East.

Observations

Across all four renders, the style uses visibly worked paint with broad, broken strokes, rough texture, and expressive edge handling. Dark figures and architecture are set against moody blue, gray, and earthen palettes, with selective warm illumination creating strongly contrasted, atmospheric narrative scenes.
