Bakemonogatari

About

Bakemonogatari is a Japanese light novel series written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by VOFAN. It is part of the Monogatari series and follows the story of Koyomi Araragi, a high school student who encounters various apparitions, gods, and spirits. The series is known for its unique narrative style, complex characters, and philosophical themes.

Observations

The style uses graphic, comic-like character art with thick ink contours, angular shadow shapes, and mostly flat but intensely saturated pink, red, purple, and black color blocks. Cropped portraits and group scenes are arranged against urban or industrial settings, with distressed texture and prominent white or red Japanese lettering adding a poster-like retro finish.
