About
Bertha Lum was an American artist known for her significant contributions to the Japonisme movement and her mastery of woodblock printing. Born in 1869, she was instrumental in bringing Asian art styles to Western audiences, particularly through her delicate and detailed prints that often depicted serene and mystical themes inspired by East Asian culture.
Observations
Across all four panels, elegant female figures are rendered with delicate contour lines, softly textured paint, and richly patterned flowing garments. Muted teal, rust, cream, black, and ochre palettes unify the ornate botanical settings, elongated profiles, and decorative surface detail.
