Chalk drawing

About

Chalk drawing is a traditional art form that involves using chalk to create images on surfaces such as sidewalks, blackboards, or paper. It is characterized by its soft, powdery texture and ability to produce both bold and subtle lines. Chalk drawings can range from simple sketches to detailed, vibrant artworks, often used in educational settings or as temporary public art.

Observations

The style combines overhead documentary-like views of artists creating large chalk portraits with highly detailed, expressive drawings embedded in the pavement. Fine chalk lines, visible powdery texture, strong sunlight, and deep pavement shadows create a realistic yet surreal trompe-l'œil effect, with mostly restrained tones punctuated by colored chalk.
