About

Gary Hume is a British artist known for his bold use of color and simplified forms. He emerged as a leading figure in the Young British Artists movement in the late 1980s and 1990s. Hume's work often features flat surfaces and vibrant colors, exploring themes of abstraction and representation.

Observations

The style uses graphic, poster-like compositions with large flat color fields, sharply simplified silhouettes, and heavy dark contours. Saturated coral, turquoise, orange, red, and black create strong contrast, while selective painterly texture and rough interior marks add expressive visual energy to portraits and still-life scenes.
