About
John Lowrie Morrison is a contemporary Scottish painter known for his vibrant and expressive landscapes, often depicting the Scottish countryside with bold colors and dynamic compositions. His work is characterized by a lively use of color and a painterly style that captures the essence of the natural environment.
Observations
Across the four views, recognizable coastal and urban settings are built from highly visible, layered paint strokes, with rough, directional marks giving buildings, water, foliage, and sky a tactile surface. The style consistently contrasts deep cobalt and violet surroundings with saturated orange, red, and pink accents from windows, streetlights, sunsets, and reflected light, producing an expressive nocturnal atmosphere.
