About
Jon Klassen is a Canadian author and illustrator known for his distinctive style in children's books. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Caldecott Medal. Klassen's illustrations often feature animals and natural settings, characterized by a subtle humor and a minimalist approach.
Observations
The style combines broad, visibly textured brushwork with ink-like silhouettes, sparse pale grounds, and strongly enlarged animal forms. Muted beige, brown, and black tones, stark value contrasts, reflective watery settings, and tiny isolated figures create a quiet, uncanny storybook atmosphere.
