About

Kiki's Delivery Service is a beloved Japanese animated film directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. Released in 1989, the film follows the adventures of a young witch named Kiki who moves to a new town to begin her training. With her black cat Jiji, Kiki starts a delivery service, facing challenges and learning about independence and friendship.

Observations

The style combines clean, fine illustrative contours and appealingly exaggerated character design with visible, directional paint strokes in the skies, grass, clothing, and props. Saturated blue, red, orange, and green create a lively storybook fantasy atmosphere, while recurring witch, cat, and broom imagery is presented through both action scenes and close character portraits.
