About

Kukeri is a traditional Bulgarian ritual involving costumed men performing dances to scare away evil spirits and bring good fortune. The participants wear elaborate masks and costumes, often resembling mythical creatures or animals, and the event is deeply rooted in cultural heritage and folklore.

Observations

The style presents imposing, eccentric masked figures through highly detailed costume construction, combining fur, feathers, bones, beads, textiles, and carved animal forms. Strong graphic contours, saturated red-black accents, and near-studio portrait compositions give the fantastical characters a tactile, sculptural presence.
