Leon Kossoff

About

Leon Kossoff is a British painter known for his expressive and textured depictions of urban life, particularly in post-war London. His works often feature thick impasto techniques and a focus on the human figure within the cityscape, capturing the emotional and physical landscapes of his surroundings.

Observations

Across all four renders, wooded landscapes are built from dense, directional paint strokes and heavily worked, raised-looking surfaces. The subdued earth-and-forest palette is punctuated by rust tones and pale openings, while deep shadows and vigorous marks give the scenes an expressive, brooding intensity.
