About
Limbourg brothers were renowned medieval manuscript illuminators from the Netherlands, active in the early 15th century. They are best known for their work on the 'Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry,' a richly decorated book of hours that exemplifies the International Gothic style. Their art is characterized by intricate details, vivid colors, and a blend of realism and fantasy, capturing the essence of medieval courtly life and religious themes.
Observations
Across all four renders, the style combines highly detailed, jewel-toned painted scenes with intricate medieval architecture, ceremonial figures, patterned garments, and abundant flowers. Fine descriptive marks, ornamental surfaces, balanced arrangements, and luminous blue, red, white, and gold accents give the images the character of richly illuminated courtly tableaux.
