About

Netsuke is a traditional Japanese miniature sculpture that served both functional and decorative purposes, often used as a toggle for securing items to a sash. Originating in the Edo period, these intricately carved pieces depict a wide range of subjects, including animals, mythical creatures, and figures from folklore, showcasing the craftsmanship and artistic expression of Japanese artisans.

Observations

The style presents small, highly detailed carved figurines as polished sculptural objects, with layered robes, expressive faces, animals, and dense relief work. Warm ivory and honey-brown materials, dark patina accents, and soft studio lighting create a restrained, tactile display-object aesthetic across the renders.
