Retna

About

Retna is an American street artist known for his distinctive calligraphic style that blends various cultural scripts and urban influences. His work often features a unique alphabet, drawing from hieroglyphics, Arabic, Hebrew, and Asian calligraphy, creating a visually striking fusion of text and imagery.

Observations

Across all four renders, the style combines dense abstract glyphs and pseudo-letterforms with stark geometric organization, heavy outlines, and forceful black-and-white contrast accented by red. Broad, visibly dragged brush marks, drips, scuffs, and uneven painted surfaces give the otherwise flat, poster-like blocks an expressive, distressed character.
