About

Richard Billingham is a British photographer and artist known for his candid and intimate portrayal of family life, particularly through his series "Ray's A Laugh," which documents his parents and their home in the West Midlands. His work often explores themes of working-class life, domesticity, and the passage of time, capturing raw and unfiltered moments with a deeply personal touch.

Observations

The style uses realistic, highly detailed interior photography with cinematic framing, strong environmental storytelling, and visible film-like grain. Muted green, brown, red, and ochre tones, deep shadows, and selective focus give the cluttered domestic scenes a moody, lived-in atmosphere.
