About

Sam Maloof was an American woodworker and furniture designer renowned for his handcrafted wooden furniture, particularly his rocking chairs. His work is celebrated for its elegant design, fine craftsmanship, and organic forms, making him a pivotal figure in the American studio furniture movement.

Observations

The style presents furniture as highly polished, sculptural wooden forms with exaggerated organic curves, elongated supports, and irregular openings. Realistic wood grain, controlled studio lighting, neutral gallery settings, and strong cast shadows give the surreal designs the appearance of refined product photography.
