About

Seven Samurai is a classic Japanese film directed by Akira Kurosawa, released in 1954. It tells the story of a village that hires seven samurai to protect them from bandits. The film is renowned for its storytelling, character development, and influence on the action genre.

Observations

The style combines heavily textured, brush-painted portraiture with bold ink-like contours, distressed surfaces, and strong black, beige, teal, and red color blocking. Dramatic warrior groupings and close-ups are arranged like monumental poster panels, using stark contrast, expansive negative space, and calligraphic vertical elements for an epic, expressive effect.
