About
Shaun Tan is an acclaimed Australian illustrator and author known for his surreal and thought-provoking works. His stories often explore complex themes through imaginative and fantastical imagery, blending elements of the real and the surreal to create unique visual narratives.
Observations
The style combines visibly textured, brush-worked surfaces with muted teal, blue, brown, and rust tones, punctuated by warm internal lights. It repeatedly places surreal giant creatures and uncanny inhabitants in misty, densely layered urban streets, using atmospheric perspective and expressive, storybook-like staging.
