About
Willi Baumeister was a German painter, scenic designer, and typographer, known for his contributions to modern art and abstract painting. Born in 1889, Baumeister was a prominent figure in the European avant-garde movement, particularly recognized for his work in the Bauhaus and Constructivist styles. His art often explored themes of abstraction and symbolism, using geometric forms and vibrant colors to convey complex ideas.
Observations
Across all four works, bold geometric and biomorphic shapes are arranged in dense abstract compositions on warm cream grounds. Strong red, blue, black, orange, and muted green forms use flat-edged areas alongside visibly brushed, textured paint, with recurring circles, eyes, spikes, and simplified organic figures creating an expressive surreal effect.
