Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (1833-1898) was a British artist and designer closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and the Arts and Crafts Movement. Born in Birmingham, England, he studied at Exeter College, Oxford, where he developed a close friendship with William Morris, a relationship that would greatly influence his artistic career.
Burne-Jones's work is characterized by its romanticism, intricate detail, and ethereal quality. He often drew inspiration from medieval legends, classical myths, and religious themes, creating paintings, stained glass, and decorative arts that evoke a dreamlike and otherworldly atmosphere.
