About

Georg Baselitz is a renowned German painter and sculptor known for his expressive and often provocative works. Emerging in the post-war art scene, Baselitz became a key figure in the Neo-Expressionist movement. His art is characterized by its bold use of color, dynamic compositions, and a focus on the human figure, often exploring themes of identity, history, and the human condition.

Observations

Across all four works, the style is intensely abstract and expressive, built from visible, heavily textured paint, scraping, drips, and vigorous overlapping marks. Saturated reds, blues, blacks, and warm pinks or whites create forceful contrasts, while fragmented forms remain suggestive rather than fully representational.
