About
Larry Elmore is a renowned American fantasy artist, best known for his work on the Dungeons & Dragons franchise and other fantasy role-playing games. His illustrations have defined the visual style of fantasy art for decades, featuring detailed and imaginative depictions of mythical worlds and characters.
Observations
The style is richly painterly, with visible directional brushwork building faces, foliage, fabric, leather, and bark into a highly detailed surface. Saturated greens, blues, and warm earth tones are shaped by strong sunlight and shadow, while crowded character groupings, active poses, and forest settings create an epic fantasy-adventure feeling.
