About
Mark Kostabi is an American artist known for his distinctive style that blends elements of surrealism and pop art. Born in 1960, Kostabi gained fame in the 1980s for his bold, colorful paintings that often feature faceless figures and urban themes. His work is characterized by a unique combination of abstraction and figurative elements, often exploring themes of identity and consumerism.
Observations
Across all four images, stylized figures and city settings are constructed from sharply faceted geometric planes, clean graphic contours, and strong blocks of saturated color. Deep shadows, bright highlights, and a fine printed grain create high contrast while preserving an illustrative, poster-like finish; recurring hats, checkerboard surfaces, and distorted proportions give the scenes a surreal character.
