About

Maurice Sendak was a renowned American illustrator and writer, best known for his children's book "Where the Wild Things Are." His work is celebrated for its imaginative storytelling and unique artistic style, which often features fantastical creatures and whimsical narratives that captivate both children and adults alike.

Observations

Across the sheet, dense pen-and-ink linework, fine hatching, and crosshatched shadows define furry horned creatures and small human and animal companions. The restricted monochrome palette, crowded woodland settings, exaggerated eyes and teeth, and fanciful yet unsettling character designs give the style a dark storybook-fantasy mood.
