About

Raqib Shaw is a contemporary artist known for his intricate and opulent paintings that often explore themes of fantasy, mythology, and cultural fusion. Born in Calcutta, India, and raised in Kashmir, Shaw's work is characterized by its elaborate detailing and vibrant color palettes, drawing inspiration from both Eastern and Western art traditions.

Observations

The style is an intensely layered, painterly fantasy tableau, packed with finely rendered flora, animals, riders, architectural details, and flowing organic forms. Saturated coral, turquoise, cobalt, and deep green create a vivid ornamental surface, while graceful movement and elaborate decoration give the scenes a dreamlike, epic character.
