About

Woodblock print is a traditional printmaking technique originating in China and later perfected in Japan, known as ukiyo-e. It involves carving an image into a wooden block, inking it, and pressing it onto paper. This method allows for the creation of intricate and colorful designs, often depicting landscapes, scenes of daily life, and nature.

Observations

The style combines graphic woodblock-like illustration with visible paper grain, carved-looking linework, and richly layered brush textures. Across the scenes, saturated vermilion, deep blue, black, and cream create bold high-contrast compositions featuring stylized animals, waves, trees, blossoms, and rising suns.
