About

Yue Minjun is a contemporary Chinese artist known for his distinctive style characterized by smiling figures, often interpreted as a critique of modern society and politics. His works are associated with the Cynical Realism movement, which emerged in China in the 1990s.

Observations

Across all four panels, the style uses vividly colored, heavily modeled painted figures with visible broad strokes and exaggerated facial expressions. Close-up portrait compositions, repeated laughing characters, strong dark-light separation, and surreal color shifts create a humorous, theatrical effect.
