About
Baroque architecture is a highly decorative and theatrical architectural style that emerged in Italy in the late 16th century and spread throughout Europe. It is characterized by new explorations of form, light, and shadow, and dramatic intensity. The style often features grandiose designs, elaborate ornamentation, and a sense of movement and tension. Baroque architecture was used to express the power and glory of the Catholic Church and the absolute monarchies of the time.
Observations
Across all four renders, monumental church facades are presented in highly detailed monochrome, with dense sculptural ornament, statues, columns, domes, arches, and curling architectural mouldings. Fine drawn lines and illustrative shading describe the carved surfaces, while stark dark interiors and generous white grounds create strong contrast and a study-like architectural presentation.
